Colby, William Egan Colby, William Egan, 1920â"96, American public official, b. St. Paul, Minn., grad. Princeton, 1940. During World War II he served in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and in 1944 was dropped by parachute behind enemy lines in German-occupied France, where he commanded a squad of saboteurs. After obtaining a law degree (Columbia, 1947), he reentered government, joining the fledgling Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 1950 and serving in U.S. embassies in Sweden (1951â"53), Italy (1953â"58), and South Vietnam (1959â"62). Colby was appointed director of the CIA by President Nixon in 1973. In 1975 he cooperated with congressional investigations into CIA activities that revealed numerous instances of questionable activities, including involvement in domes tic espionage and assassination attempts on foreign leaders. Although many credited him with saving the agency, which was brought under greater governmental control, numerous conservatives criticized him for his candor and cooperation. In Nov., 1975, he was relieved of his position by President Ford, who replaced him with George H. W. Bush . After leaving the CIA, Colby was an active advocate of arms reductions. Theology in the Public Square: Reflections on Reinhold Niebuhr and Malcolm X in a Racially Charged America This paper reflects the theological implications of life in the public square from the perspectives of two theologians in a very racially charged US of the 1950/60ââ¬â¢s. The Internet Completely Revolutionized The Computer Industry
The introduction of the Internet completely revolutionized the computer industry. The Internet gave people the ability to communicate with one another all over the world in record amounts of time. Today, we use the internet in our everyday lives and almost take it for granted. Therefore, itââ¬â¢s important to dive into the history of the development of the Internet to understand itââ¬â¢s past, present and potential for the future. There were two main historical developments that led to the development of the World Wide Web. Starting in 1930, writer and futurist HG Wells came up with the idea of a ââ¬Å"World Brain.â⬠In explaining his idea he said, ââ¬Å"The time is close at hand when any student, in any part of the world, will be able to sit with his projector in his own study at his or her own convenience to examine any book, any document, in an exact replicaâ⬠(Campell-Kelly, 19). HG Wellsââ¬â¢ concept was revolutionary at the time, however, there were still many technological developments that needed to be created in order to make his concept come to life. It was not until after the World War 2 that Vannevar Bush, an MIT graduate, brought Wellsââ¬â¢ idea to the United States in order to compliment what he deemed as ââ¬Å"an information explosion.â⬠War typically instigated the need for technological advancements and in 1949 during the Cold War, the United States invested in a new ai r defense system called SAGE. The charm and ingenuity of moreProfiles.com is the simplicity that comes with having to do only One Searchâ⠢ and to submit only One Profileâ⠢. Previously, singles interested in online dating have found that choosing a dating website often locks them into the relatively stagnant pool of users that belong to that one site. It has been Dahlââ¬â¢s concern that singles should not be distracted by decisions about which online dating service to use.à He says, ââ¬Å"The question shouldnââ¬â¢t be ââ¬ËWhich dating website is right for me?ââ¬â¢ The question should be ââ¬ËWhich person is right for me?ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ He believes that it should be as simple to search online for a dating partner as it is has been to search for any thing else. John Stockton And Karl Malone Essays - Ball Games, Team Sports
John Stockton And Karl Malone There are thousands of people who enjoy playing the game of basketball. Although there are only a handful who play this game professionally. All of these players want to play for a championship team, such as the Chicago Bulls of the 1990's. John Stockton and Karl Malone are different in terms of their position and their roll, but they are similar because of their unique knowledge of the sport. First off their positions are totally different, because John Stockton play a point guard position and Karl Malone play power forward. Their positions are a direct result of their size and talents. John Stockton is only 6'1 and 185 lbs whereas Karl Malone is 6'10 and 240 lbs, which makes it obvious that Karl Malone is much bigger and stronger. Their skills also dictate which position they play. Since Karl Malone is bigger he is naturally better at rebounding and dunking, but his dribbling skills are not as strong because he does not have to do much dribbling. John Stockton on the other hand is and excellent dribbler and an even better passer. Another difference is their role on their team. John Stockton is responsible for dribbling up the court, passing the ball and scoring. Karl Malone is responsible for scoring, rebounding and shutting down the opposition on the defensive side. Since John Stockton dribbles the ball up the court he controls the tempo of the game, whether he want to go fast or just slow everything down. Malone wants to make the big play to pump up the team, give them life or just put the final nail in the coffin. Both of these players are leader of the team and are the go-to-guys on the Utah Jazz. Even though there are some differences between the two players, there are also some Similarities. These two extraordinary basketball players are both all stars, and have been for many years. They have been playing on the same team with each other, for over ten years. They are captains and leader, their team mates look to them for help. They are extremely experienced, they know each other in and out, which is one reason why their team is so successful. After playing on the same team for over ten years, they know what each other is going to do. This is a very unique thing, because players find that money is more important. John Stockton and Karl Malone are two great players in the N.B.A., they demonstrate strong commitment, leadership and are assets to their team and the league itself. They are different in some ways and are similar in others. Although their differences are complementary which make them strong, and their similarities make them stronger. GrecoPersian war essays
GrecoPersian war essays In September of 490 BC. The Greco-Persian war rages on in the Marathon Plain of Northwest Attica. The Athenians have just repulsed the first Persian invasion of Greece. The Greek army was vested to ten different generals each controlling one day of battle. The generals were evenly divided on whether to wait for the Persians to attack or to attack them. A civil official, Callimachus, who decided to attack, broke the tie. Four of the generals ceded their commands to the Athenian general Miltiades making him commander in chief. The Greeks did not want to face the Persian cavalry on the open plain, but before dawn the Greeks learned the cavalry was temporarily absent from the Persian camp. Miltiades ordered a general attack on the Persian army. He led his contingent of 10,000 Athenians and 1,000 Plataeans against the Persian force of 15,000. By re-enforcing his battle lines flank thus decoying the Persians best troops into pushing back his center where they were surrounded by inward-whe eling Greek wings. According to legend an Athenian messenger was sent from Marathon to Athens, a distance of 25 miles, where he announced the Persian defeat before dying of exhaustion. That tale became the basis for the modern marathon race. Herodotus tells that a trained runner Pheidippides was sent from Athens to Sparta before the battle to request assistance from the Spartans. He is said to have run some 150 miles in about two days. Through all the fighting there was one tradition that continued through all the ages. For centuries Olympic games have never stopped. The Olympian games were celebrated in the summer every four years in the sanctuary of Zeus at Olympia. The order of events is really not known but they believe that the first day was devoted for sacrifices to the gods. The second day began with foot races. Spectators gathered in the stadion, an oblong area enclosed by sloping banks of earth. On other days wrestling, boxing, and the pancrati...

A Comprehensive Guide on Writing a Character Analysis
A Comprehensive Guide on Writing a Character Analysis 10 Steps to Creating an Outstanding Character Essay Analysis Character analysis is an essay, which aims to describe a certain character from a book or a popular figure that exists in reality. Such paper is concentrated on personal features and character of an analyzed person. However, a high school character analysis greatly differs from a college one, because it requires more detailed research and has specific demands. Moreover, you also need to follow one of the formatting styles: MLA; APA; Harvard; Chicago/Turabian. If you are a college freshman or have never written a university character analysis before, you should be ready to face lots of requirements, including context, structure and thoughtful analysis. You can include personal stories and experience to support the topic. Below we have gathered the best 10 tips to write a flawless character analysis. A thorough research You must know every feature of the analyzed character, his personal qualities and background. That is why you should gather as much opinions and views, as possible. You should understand that the same character looks completely different in various sources, so it is important to stick not only to the initial book but also to other credible sources. They include: Newspapers; Magazines; Articles; Blogs; Videos. Shape your ideas with the help of an outline Outline is not a compulsory part of your character analysis if the opposite is not indicated by your professor. However, it is a very important section for your own convenience, because with its help you will always know what to write about, step-by-step. Without an outline you can lose track of the general flow of your essay and wonââ¬â¢t be able to deliver a quality text. An outline is a plan, a list of all the ideas you want to share with the reader. Strong introduction and a thesis statement Every written assignment should always start with an introduction paragraph, which contains a thesis statement in the last sentence. Your goal is to prove the audience that you have serious reasons to write about a chosen character. You can insert a quote from the source text or provide interesting and unknown details about a person you want to tell about. However, such information should be general, without too much information. Describe heroââ¬â¢s character Your body paragraphs should contain information on all of the features you have found about the discussed person. Start with a powerful statement and then support it with evidence. Remind all of the episodes, which prove your point of view. For that purpose you will have to read the book from the first page to the last one. Write about the key conflict Even though your task is to discuss a person or a character, you should still explain what the main conflict of the analyzed piece is. This will help you to explain the reader why the analyzed character is good or bad, acts right or wrong, etc. If you are not able to identify the conflict on your own, turn to your professor or a professional writing company! Use clear language Some students think that a character analysis doesnââ¬â¢t require academic language and decide to use slang instead. However, your essay should always remain academic and contain clear English. Never use words, which you are not able to find in the vocabulary, as it may greatly lower your final marks. Make sure you choose a proper character type Every literature assignment should include specific terms, so when you analyze a character you should always define what his type is: Protagonist (the main hero); Antagonist; Major character; Minor character; Dynamic; Stereotypical; Foils; Single-dimensional; Three-dimensional. State your position You need to process various opinions and arguments to show the character both from good and bad sides. In addition, you need to present a fresh look on the plot of the story and on the character himself to interest the reader. Include questions without an answer You can tell the audience about unanswered questions from the text or ask them yourself. In such a way, your reader will think about your essay even after finishing it and may even want to continue the research. Get quality assistance If you are limited in time and have tens of other assignments to be delivered, we are there to help! Even if you donââ¬â¢t have a wish to work on a character analysis or have no ideas what to write about, there is no need to panic. Our professional writers and editors are always ready to create an original character analysis for you, meeting all of the demands and requirements.
